FINANCING
THREE PRIMARY SOURCES OF FUNDING
We raise the funds needed to keep the organization running through:
DONATIONS FROM COMPANIES AND FROM BIANNUAL SALES
Since its founding, over sixty designers have joined Prométhée Humanitaire’s cause by regularly donating pieces from their collections. Our partner companies also donate decorations, clothes, accessories, kitchenware, gadgets and toys. Thanks to these generous donations, Prométhée Humanitaire has been able to organize promotional sales in Paris and the surrounding areas. These sales are open to the public, and offer products at attractive discounts: 40-60% off their retail prices, depending on the product.
Because we receive donations from businesses, and because people come to our biannual sales, Prométhée Humanitaire is able to continue its work.
We have also received other forms of support, which include being provided rooms, plane tickets, refreshments, etc…
DIRECT FINANCIAL SUPPORT
Some societies have gone out of their way to provide direct financial support to our centers. “Pylônes” currently supports SPER in Dakar, Senegal. “Mais il est où le soleil?” supports KROMA in Jacmel, Haiti. And “Musée des Arts Forains de Paris” provides some direct support to Prométhée Humanitaire.
INDIVIDUAL DONATIONS AND SPONSORSHIPS
We gladly welcome any donations as they are essential in maintaining our centers, and because Prométhée Humanitaire, in contrast to other associations, does not call for sponsoring individual children.
To us, a good sponsor is not necessarily one who sends cards on special occasions or sends money to “their” child. In addition, this kind of system could cause disparate effects. One child may happily receive a package, while others may feel neglected, which could lead to additional stress for children who already have suffered much neglect in their lives. Furthermore, if a center were to receive money for one child in particular, it could put the center in a compromising position in which they could forget the real purpose of the center and instead think of children as potential sources of revenue.
We think it is important that we avoid putting certain values on children and hurting them by doing so.
We propose other forms of sponsorship:
- General sponsorships that benefit our projects and goals as a whole
- Sponsorships for particular services. For example, the infirmary, nutrition center, school center, cultural activities, buying materials, etc.
- Sponsorship of one of our centers
